The interior is tulip poplar, beech and aromatic cedar. Drawers are legal width and a full 33" deep, gliding on waxed wooden frames. Brass mortise locks are fitted in the center drawer and one drawer in each of the two pedestals. The right hand case features a double drawer, designed to accept a  standard hanging file system. The two drawer cases and each individual drawer are impeccably fitted with hand-cut dovetails.

 

For ease of moving, the desk comes in three sections and is assembled without tools. A one-quarter inch ground and polished glass plate protects the beautifully book-matched two-board figured mahogany top. Twenty-two steps were used to smooth, age, stain, fill and finish the contrasting woods, to enhance and protect grain, figure and color. Traditional methods of joinery, construction and finishing assure longevity of several hundred years and make this piece highly desirable for the discriminating professional's office decor.
